Introduction to My Dietary Journey

Growing up, my relationship with food was greatly influenced by my family’s financial circumstances. Shopping on a budget meant that meals often included convenience foods like Top Ramen and mac and cheese. Yet, despite consuming less than ideal nutrition, I maintained a lean physique due to limited access to food.

College and Weight Gain

Upon entering college, everything changed. The all-you-can-eat buffet allowed me to gain the freshman 15, something I secretly relished as I finally fit the ideal of having curves. My eating habits revolved around heavy dessert plates and breakfast cereals masquerading as dinner treats, which left my health neglected.

Exercise vs. Diet

As a collegiate athlete, the extensive workouts seemed to counterbalance my dietary indulgences, at least from a weight perspective. However, frequent UTIs, acne, joint pain, and irregular menstrual cycles indicated that my diet wasn’t doing me any favours despite my thin frame.

The Transition to Maui

My move to Maui post-graduation marked a pivotal shift—mainly in giving up frequent workouts due to knee pain. This phase again featured poor diet choices, such as daily donuts, further aggravating my health until a gym buddy inspired continued fitness, introducing me to my future husband, Bryce.

Influence of Love on Diet

Meeting Bryce, who adhered to a health-conscious diet, gradually shifted my nutrition perspective. His avoidance of processed foods and desserts intrigued me, despite initial reluctance. His dietary habits began to rub off on me over time as our grocery shopping trips turned into educational experiences about ingredients and health impacts.

Adopting Keto for Adventure

Transitioning from consuming sugary treats to a low-carb keto diet wasn’t an overnight decision but was spurred by curiosity and admiration for Bryce. His tales of vivid keto dreams and attractive meals sparked my desire to join in and share these experiences.

Embracing a Minimalist Diet: Carnivore

Gradually, plant-based foods started to take a backseat, particularly as Bryce began eliminating certain vegetables for improved gut health. Upon discovering that animal products could fully meet my nutrient needs, I embraced the carnivore diet for its simplicity and ease.

Unexpected Health Benefits

Initially, my shift to this diet was motivated by novelty; nonetheless, unforeseen health improvements soon followed. My chronic knee pain vanished, hormonal balance improved, and skin clarity emerged, proving that this simple, animal-based consumption was profoundly effective.

Understanding Mindset and Flexibility

An important aspect of my nutritional journey is maintaining a positive mindset. Viewing dietary choices as opportunities rather than restrictions enhances adherance and enjoyment of meals. It’s key to balance health goals with enjoyment, being open to occasionally deviating from strict regimens if it benefits overall happiness.

The carnivore diet has changed my life in ways I didn’t anticipate. By focusing on foods that delighted my taste buds and supported optimal health, I’ve crafted a sustainable lifestyle rather than a temporary diet.
